Saint Nicholas holds the Gospel book and blesses with his right hand.
He had been imprisoned by emperor Constantine the Great for having slapped Arius the heretical at the First Council of Niceea. While asleep in his cell, he had the vision of the Virgin and Jesus Christ returning to him the “omophorion” and the “Tetraevangelia”. The Holy Face (Mandylion) is depicted on top.
